Public Heath England is an Executive Agency of the UK Department of Health that was established on 1 April 2013 bringing together public health specialists from more than 70 organisations into a single public health service. PHE is the expert national public health agency, which fulfils the Secretary of State for Health’s statutory duty to protect health and address inequalities, and executes the Secretary of State’s power to promote the health and wellbeing of the nation. PHE’s Centre for Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards (CRCE) is integrated into PHE’s Health Protection Directorate and had its origins in the National Radiological Protection Board and was part of the Health Protection Agency (HPA). CRCE has a wide range of expertise in radiological protection as demonstrated by its involvement in the MELODI, EURADOS, and NERIS platforms; CRCE also has expertise in medical radiation protection.
